Doris User Groups

Join an Apache Doris user group.Or start one in your city.

Doris User Groups are local, community-run meetups where developers, data engineers, and architects learn Apache Doris hands-on and share what they build. Local organizers from the Doris community run each group their way, with help from VeloDB.

  • Monthly meetups
  • Hands-on workshops
  • Free to attend
  • Led by locals

Run by the community. With help from VeloDB.

  1. Open to everyone

Anyone who works with data is welcome. Events are free, and taking part never requires buying a product, talking to sales, or working for a particular company.

  2. Run your way

Organizers choose the topics, speakers, language, venue, and schedule. Inside your agreed plan and budget, you don't need approval for every post, slide, or expense.

  3. Help from VeloDB

VeloDB takes part by helping the Apache Doris community organize user groups. It can fund part of your event costs and help with workshop kits, content, and promotion.

  4. Safe and honest

Every event and chat group follows a public code of conduct. Attendance is real, sponsors are disclosed, and fair criticism stays up.

Join a group

Come to a meetup, work through a hands-on lab, and meet people who are solving the same data problems you are.

We'll list contact details for user groups in each region here soon.

Ways to take part:

  1. Attend. Meetups are free. Register, show up, ask questions.
  2. Speak. Share something you built. First-time speakers can start with a 5–10 minute lightning talk.
  3. Help organize. Every group needs a co-lead, a technical partner, and a few volunteers.
  4. Host. Offer a venue, co-host with your own community, or support a group as a company.

Start a group in your city

Leading a Doris User Group is real work, and you won't do it alone. Here is what every group commits to, and the help you can count on from VeloDB and the Doris community.

Apply to lead a group

What we ask

  1. Meet every month

    • One in-person technical meetup a month.
    • One hands-on workshop a month, which can be part of the same meetup.
    • A real Apache Doris session at every meetup.
  2. Grow local leaders

    • Bring on a co-lead and a technical partner within your first 90 days.
    • Give new local speakers the stage.
    • Build working partnerships with at least two local organizations.
  3. Share what you learn

    • Post on LinkedIn, or your city's main professional network, every week.
    • Publish one technical blog post a month. We help with topics, editing, and translation.
    • Run a local chat group (Telegram, Slack, WhatsApp, or whatever your city uses) and answer questions within two business days.

Your launch plan sets the targets for your city. If local conditions call for a smaller start, we agree on it together.

What you get

  1. Recognition.

A Founding Lead title during your launch, then a User Group Lead title and certificate for your term. Leads with a record of verifiable contributions can be nominated for Apache Doris community recognition, such as Community Champion, which the community reviews under its own process.

  2. Event funding.

VeloDB can fund part of your event costs, agreed with you in advance.

  3. Ready-to-run content.

Tested workshop kits, slide decks, a topic library, promotional assets, and registration templates.

  4. A technical mentor.

A named mentor from the Doris community, plus monthly sessions on product, technology, and event operations.

  5. Training.

Onboarding on Apache Doris basics, running labs, running events, and community guidelines.

  6. Promotion.

Your events and articles featured on VeloDB/Doris channels, with speaker spotlights and interview opportunities.

  7. Case study rewards.

A cash reward for each approved, published production case study from your community.

From first idea to official group

  1. Apply.

Tell us about yourself, your city, and the people you can reach. Individuals and companies are both welcome. Every group has a named Lead.

  2. Agree on a launch plan.

On a kickoff call, we set your home city, co-organizers, language, targets, budget, and group name together.

  3. Run a 90-day launch.

Three monthly cycles, each with a meetup and a workshop. Your mentor helps you rehearse labs and prepare content.

  4. Become an official group.

After a joint review, you lead the group for a 12-month term, with quarterly check-ins and a renewal review before the term ends.

FAQ

Do I need to be an Apache Doris expert to start a group?

No. You need local connections and the will to organize. Pair up with a technical partner, and we'll train you both and provide tested labs.

Is it free to attend?

Yes. Events are free, and attending never requires buying a product or accepting sales contact.

Can a company start a group?

Yes. A company can back a group with people, time, and venues. The Lead role belongs to a named person, and the group stays open to everyone: most attendees should come from outside the organizers' own companies.

What if our local community is still small?

Tell us when you apply. Attendance and frequency targets are set in your launch plan, and we can start smaller where the local community is still growing.

Can we co-host with other tech communities?

Yes, and we warmly welcome it. Co-hosting is a great way to bring local communities together. A joint event counts as your group's meetup when your group has a clear organizing role and the event includes a dedicated Apache Doris session.

Which language should our events use?

Whatever works for your members. Ask them when they register. Many groups mix the local language with English.

What if I need to step down?

Give us 30 days' notice if you can. We'll help you hand over the group's channels and plans, and your contributions stay on the record.

Is this an official Apache Software Foundation program?

No. Doris User Groups are organized by local community members with support from VeloDB. Apache Doris is an independent project of the Apache Software Foundation, which does not run or endorse these events. Members of the Apache Doris Project Management Committee (PMC) take part in organizing the events to make sure they follow ASF rules.
